A Cube To Call My Own
I have set my cubical up with some things to personalize my space. I stopped by the QFC this morning and bought a four inch Polka Dot plant (mine is smaller and more of a red color). I think it is just the thing. Where my office is if I stand up I have a nice clear view of Lake Washington and the famous floating 520 bridge.
I really like bridges they are just beautiful. I think that had I grown up in the Seattle area I would have become a bridge engineer. I would love to design or even just build bridges. Growing up in the desert we had very few bridges. The bridges we do have in Idaho are not very long and certainly not as elaborate as the bridges here.
Back to the message of the day... I have a cute little Dilbert wall calendar for laughs. For inspiration I printed off some short quotes:
Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.” Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
“Good breeding consists of concealing how much we think of ourselves and how little we think of the other person.” Mark Twain
“I passionately hate the idea of being with it; … an artist has always to be out of step with (her) time.” Orson Welles
I also have a couple of prayers up to keep me grounded;
What shall we then say to these things?
If God be for us, who can be against us?
Bible - Romans 8:31
God, I don’t have great faith, but I can be faithful. My belief in you may be seasonal, but my faithfulness will not. I will follow in the way of Christ. I will act as though my life and the lives of others matter. I will love. I have no greater gift to offer than my life. Take it.
And a lovely notice to remind myself that I am not a failure:
I found some bits of the carpeting they put in the new office and glued small squares to thumb tacks to make custom matching thumb tacks. I also glued some to a small jar to make a matching pen cup.
In all I am sure that my space is truly my own.
